Ole Night Out -- Registration Form

9th Annual Ole Night Out

Sunday, November 16th 2008

Ole Night Out is an opportunity for St. Olaf students to relax and eat a home-cooked meal in the comfort of alum’s home. This unique experience allows for alumni to get a glimpse into current life at St. Olaf and for students to see what life might be like beyond “The Hill.” This is a great opportunity to both socialize with alumni and make networking connections.

All you need to do is get your friends together (groups must be made of 2-5 students), fill out this form, and get ready for an evening of fun!

Please fill out this form and return it to the Student Alumni Association PO Box #151

(the wall by the mail window) or send it electronically to Steeves@stoalf.edu

by Thursday, November 6.

Meeting Minutes: 9/21/08

1. We did introductions again except with a much larger group this time!

2. The mission statement for SAA is:
The Connection.
Encouraging active relationships between student and alumni.
Fostering school spirit and tradition.

3. Homecoming events:

  • Medallion Hunt: The first clue will be put up on Friday, October 3 and the hunt will continue until the medallion is found (hopefully on Sunday). If you would like to help write clues or do PR for the event, email Sara Weathers (weathers@stolaf.edu) with your name asap. The group will be meeting sometime this week to discuss the event and then again next Sunday to finalize things. Sara will be emailing out a list of who signed up soon as a reminder.
  • Hospitality Tent: The hospitality tent will be set up by the entrance to the football field on Saturday, October 4th from 12pm-2pm. We will be serving apple cider in awesome St. Olaf mugs. There really isn't much planning left to do with this event, but we need SAA members to volunteer for shifts from 11:30-2:15 on the day of the event to help set-up, set out mugs, greet alumni, and clean up. The shifts are from 11:30-12 (set-up), 12-12:45, 12:45-1:30, and 1:30-2:15 (clean-up). Email Kelly Hawley (hawley@stolaf.edu) with any shifts you would like to help with if you didn't sign up at the meeting. I attached the schedule of those who have signed up so far.
  • Buckthorn Project: The Buckthorn Project will take place on Saturday, October 4th from 7:30am-10. We need people to help with PR for the event, organizing breakfast for the morning of the project and to recruit students to help with the project. Anne Steeves will be coordinating the event, so if you did not sign up at the meeting, email her at steeves@stolaf.edu.
4. Sara will have a PR committee for the year that will help sub-committees do creative and effective PR for events. Email her if you're interested in being on the committee for the year.

5. Buttons: SAA members will each get a button with their name on it to wear this year at events! They're going to be Saaaweet!

6. Library Hallway: Next Sunday those interested will be meeting in the Library Hallway to do PR for all of the homecoming events. Sara is heading this up and has lots of great ideas planned. She will need quite a bit of help with this, so please email her if you'll be available.

7. Future events:
  • Founders Day (Nov 6)
  • Ole Night Out (Nov 16)
  • SAA Christmas Party (Dec)
  • Ettiquette Dinner (Feb)
  • Philanthropy Week (March)
  • National Day of Service (April 18)
  • Alumni Board on campus (April 24-25)
Next meeting: October 28th at 3pm in BC 142. There will not be a large group meeting; however, Sara, Anne, and Kelly will email everyone who has signed up to be on a homecoming committee with specific meeting details.

Meeting Minutes: 9/10/08

1. Introductions --
  • Anne Steeves is the Student Alumni Association Coordinator.
  • Sara Weathers is the PR Assistant. She has an abundance of creative ways to get the word out about our events.
  • Kelly Hawley (aka me) is the Financial Assistant. I will be in charge of our budget and posting the meeting minutes on the SAA blog (http://studentalumniassociation.blogspot.com)...check it out! Ask me if you ever need money for an SAA event or need details from a meeting you missed.
  • Nathan Soland is our faculty advisor. He is the Director of Alumni and Parent Relations and is a wonderful resource for SAA with lots a connections with alumni and important people on campus.
2. Homecoming is the first event of the year on our agenda. During homecoming weekend, SAA will be involved with the medallion hunt, the Buckthorn Project and the hospitality tent at the football game. More details will be discussed at the next meeting.

3. Unfortunately, we did not have as big of a turnout last night as we hoped for so you should have just received an email from Anne to help us determine what time works best for meetings for the most people. If you missed the meeting, it's definitely NOT too late to get involved! Last night was basically an introduction to SAA and our events. We will be breaking up into committees to plan each of the homecoming events at our next meeting and would love to have as many people help as possible!
